Kar files from this website are KaraUkey files containing lyrics and Chords.
KaraUkey Kar files are midi files with lyrics and chords that can be played on your Windows PC, Mac or iPad. They are very small and efficient files, and are easily downloaded. They require a suitable player (software) for your device. They use the sound card built into your machine to generate the music. The lyrics and chords are synchronized with the music and are displayed on the screen of your PC, Mac or iPad. Kar files can have up to 16 individual channels. Most players allow you to turn these channels on or off, and also allow you to adjust the tempo of the music without affecting the pitch.
You can also change the output displays and font sizes, create Playlists etc.
Different devices need different players. The players available are downloadable, generally reliable and relatively inexpensive or free. The vanBasco player for windows PC's is free. You can even go BIG if you want to use KaraUkey Music to play together
You can go BIG with both the sound and the scrolling lyrics and chords. Plug the headphone outlet on your PC directly into an amplifier or mixer to broadcast the sequenced backing tracks through a sound system. Hook the VGA port to a TV screen or projector so everyone can see it.
The chords are added so you can play along with any instrument. What is great about KarUkey is that everyone in the room is generally either singing, or playing, or both. It sounds great and it's a lot of fun.

The KaraUkey tracks are reproduced with embedded chords, so we need a reproduction licence as well as a communication licence to allow us to legally reproduce them and offer them to you. This ensures that royalties are paid to the original copyright owners of the music. The big upside is that we now have legal access to a fantastic body of music which is almost a privilege to learn and play. This website offers a growing list of backing tracks.
Zip files - are compressed files (File names end with .zip)
Zip files are compressed files used to make downloads smaller. A zip utility is used to compress the files. An Unzip utility is used to decompress the files. A Zip file can contain several different files, which are released when the file is unzipped. Many computers are shipped with unzip utilities built into their operating systems. This is true of many versions of Windows for example. If your computer has a built in Unzip utility you need only left click on the zip file to decompress it and release all of the files it contains.

PDF Files are a convenient way to transfer documents over the internet. They require a reader which is available free and generally already on your PC, tablet or desktop computer.
